What Maat Scan looks at in a headshot
Studio lighting without a studio
Generated headshots often have soft, even light and a blurred backdrop no real office produces. The impression signal assesses this.
Skin and hair texture
Fine texture across skin and hair tends to be smoothed in generated portraits.
Clothing and edges
Collars, glasses, earrings and the outline of the shoulders are frequent places for distortions.
Facial proportions
Facial landmark geometry is compared with the ranges seen in natural faces.
Checks beyond the photo
- Check how long the profile has existed and whether its activity matches the career it claims.
- Reverse-search the photo together with the name.
- Verify the employer independently, for example through the company's own website or a contact you already know.
- Remember that many genuine professionals use AI headshot tools. A generated photo alone is not evidence of a false identity.
What the score doesn't cover
- An AI headshot of a real person and a generated face for an invented person can score the same. The score describes the image, not the intent.
- Profile photos are small and compressed. Open the full-size image before you save it.
