What the score looks at in a profile photo
Generated faces
Profile photos made with image generators often show uniform skin texture and idealised proportions, which Maat Scan measures.
Heavy retouching
Face-slimming and beauty filters leave traces in skin texture and can bend nearby outlines, such as a door frame or the edge of a wall.
Overall impression
A vision model rates whether the photo reads as a natural snapshot or as a rendered, studio-perfect image.
Metadata
Dating apps remove camera data, so this signal will usually be neutral. That is expected.
Other checks before you trust a profile
- Reverse-search each photo. A stolen photo often turns up under a different name.
- Look for consistency across the profile's photos: the same moles, teeth and ear shape in every image.
- Suggest a short live video call. Scam profiles tend to avoid one.
- Be cautious with any request for money, gift cards or crypto, however convincing the photos look.
What a score can't confirm
- A natural score does not confirm who is behind a profile. Real photos are often taken from other people's accounts.
- Many genuine users apply filters. A lower score can mean ordinary retouching rather than deception.
- Screenshots reduce image quality. Save the original photo where possible, and crop to the person if the screenshot includes app buttons.

Will the other person know I checked their photo?
No. Maat Scan does not contact anyone or post anything about your scans. On the free plan, the photo you upload is not stored on our servers.
Can I check several photos from the same profile?
Yes. Checking two or three photos from the same profile gives you more to go on than a single image.
What should I do if the score is low?
Treat it as a reason to verify further, for example with a video call or a reverse image search. It is not proof on its own.
